Eliot considered swinging by the diner to get his spare change of clothes, but honestly, all he wanted was a nice, hot shower in his own damn bathroom. He'd been in worse spots, certainly, and for much longer.

But he wasn't sure he'd ever been in weirder.

Val went barrelling over as soon as he put his key in the door, and he swooped down to scoop her up and let her lick his chin even though he had god only knew what still stuck in his beard. "Honeys," he called. "I'm home!"

"Yay!" Called someone's voice from upstairs. A head popped downward and Parker asked, "How was Guam?"

"Guam." Eliot shoved his hair out of his face. He really, really needed a comb. Also probably several tons of soap. And possibly some bactine. "I'm sure it's probably fine."

"You didn't set fire to it on your way out, did you?" Parker flipped downward, landed, and went for the elbow-laden hug. "What's that smell? It's like swamp-water with Barbie perfume."

"That's not . . . totally inaccurate," Eliot allowed. "If I'd set anything on fire, I'd smell like smoke."

"Heh." Parker leaned back a bit, nose wrinkling, and looked him over, noting the scrapes, the bracelets, the band-aids. "So you drowned it instead? You didn't get hurt any worse than I can see or smell, did you?" She poked at one ouchie place and said, "I like these bandaids. We should get some like that. Or with velociraptors."

"Maybe we can find both. Raptors with little pink bows." Eliot moved out of the way of the poking in the tired, effortless manner of one accustomed to such things. "I've actually never been to Guam."

That got him a pout. "Did you lie about it so we wouldn't follow you? No fair!" They weren't going to do that until at least a week had gone by! "Eliot! Why?"

"Didja happen to notice anything . . . weird about this Guam note?"

"Well it kind of read like you'd already been hit on the head, and were in a really big hurry, and remembered to write it when you left the house...." Parker's eyes narrowed in suspicion. "Whyyy?" In a totally different tone than the last 'why.'

Hardison looked up from his computer, not looking like a man who'd been out of his head with worry about his errant partner. So either Kathy was right about a note or Eliot really needed to reassess his relationships.

"Well, hail the conquerin' hero," Hardison said, his hand up to his forehead as he pretended to swoon. "Comin' home from his adventures an'...in damn need of a shower."

"Yeah, I hear ya been braggin' 'bout me on the radio in my absence." Eliot set Val back down and came over to drape his grubby self as much over Hardison as he could get away with. "Somethin' about a note?"

"Man, man, get off me," Hardison complained, batting at Eliot in such a way that suggested he was actually pretty pleased with having his boyfriend draped over him, but certain images needed to be upheld. "An' yeah. Why wouldn't I brag that my boy finally learned how to write a damn note. Not that it mentioned you'd be swimmin' through all the sewage in Guam."

". . . Yeah, 'bout that." Eliot sighed, resting his chin against Hardison's head and sighing like he was set to take a nap right there. "I didn't leave a note."

"What're you talkin' about?" Hardison asked. "We found it!"

"Where?" Eliot asked. "Do ya still have it?"

"Of course!" Hardison said, pointing towards the kitchen. "It's on the fridge. We weren't gonna throw out Boyfriend's First Useful Note! We were proud of it."

"I didn't --" Eliot broke off with a sigh, then shuffled over to take a look at the note (he was missing that left shoe). The sigh when he saw the actual note was much heavier and more growly. ". . . Y'all didn't happen to notice that this is signed 'hairy anger man,' didja?"

"We were impressed with your self-awareness," Hardison told him. "An' possibly that you'd given enough of an explanation that we didn't look too far."

Parker was now leaning against Hardison, and smirking a little. "I win the bet."

See! He came back without a broken limb! Or a concussion!

Hardison heaved a giant sigh. "You win," he agreed. Grudgingly. "You're in charge of our next three dates."

"Yessss." Now she sounded almost like Hardison there, and she grinned. "I'll go easy on the first one. Nothing scary. Or cold." She paused and added, "Or anyplace likely to have gremlins."

Really. She now wanted to mace those little guys.

"Naw, I got bit by one already an' once was enough for me," Hardison said, shooting a fond look towards the bathroom where the shower was still going. "Not like our boy, though. Obviously."

This was twice by Hardison's count.

"Maybe they like him more," Parker speculated. "They did give him all those bracelets. I wonder if he made them any?" She frowned. "Do you think they don't like me, or they do like me?"

"I think they look at you an' see someone they don't wanna mess with," Hardison said. "Ain't a matter of likin' or not likin'. More like respectin'. You're fearless an' won't take none of their nonsense an' I bet they know that."

Parker beamed and leaned in to give him a kiss. A very appreciative one. "I'd bite them back," she agreed.
