At the docks, then out to sea, Sunday

The colors from the previous days were still holding, if maybe slightly more muted, Fandom's magic slowly fading but still managing to hang on for another day.

Seemed like a good omen as any for a wedding that Eliot still couldn't quite believe was happening.

Eliot's boat wasn't big enough for all their guests so they had "rented" (long story) a well-appointed yacht for the day. It was docked in the Port of Fandom, waiting for all the guests to board. Once the last person had crossed the gangplank, it sailed almost to the edge of the island, where blue water lapped with gray. Eliot's boat was already there, anchor down, Hardison in a tux, playing around with a sound system.

A few minutes to futz with mics and the speakers set up discreetly around the yacht came to life. "Testin'...Testin'..." Hardison murmured. Good. Everybody would be able to hear the ceremony on the second ship.

Looks like it was time to begin.

Tony and ~~a modded with permission~~ Steve were there in suits (picked by the one of them with a modern fashion sense), ready to celebrate the happy thrupple.

And hey, nothing weird happened during this! It really was a red letter day for the island.

"Only by the barest of technicalities, I think," Kathy said, turning to give him a lingering look and a smile. "Hardison is more like the younger uncle type and Parker breaks out in hives whenever you mention the word 'parent' in relation to her."

She leaned in to kiss him. "I'm so glad you could make it."

"Well, I think you look amazing," Kathy said, leaning in to steal a kiss. "I was gonna ask if the corset is maybe a little too risque for the wedding reception of my own dad, but you miiiight not be the most neutral party to ask."

"Good," Kathy said, letting him go so they could go back to being fancy and wedding-ready. "Because you do. And I'm not just saying that as your wayward adopted daughter. I mean it, 100%."

Raven rolled her eyes. "Those were funny." If you had a certain macabre sense of humor.

"Yes, dear," Misfit said. "Anyway, I'd say I wouldn't have missed it, but Raven made me come." They looked around. "Not that I blame her. This is the nicest poly wedding I've seen."

"This is the first poly wedding you've ever seen."

"In person," Misfit agreed. "The place I grew up was a little. . . ." They trailed off with a grimace and a shrug. Raven gave their arm an extra little squeeze.

Anders returned the kiss, sweetly. "I wouldn't have missed it," he said. "I feel guilty enough about missing pride, and that'll happen again next year."

Hardison laughed. "Nana will be happy to say hello," he said. "An' I won't be mad if y'all run off with a few bottles of champagne an' a doggy-bag. We got all this food, you might as well enjoy it."

"Everythin's ready," Hardison confirmed. "TA an' Kathy were on the ball, pitchin' in with the last-minute prep an' now all we gotta do is get through all the official stuff."

He looked at Parker, all love and admiration on his face. "You are so beautiful," he said. "I 'member thinkin' that the first day I met you an' ain't nothin' changed 'bout that."

Parker thought back to that night, breaking into the building for Dubenich. "I thought you were interesting. And back then, I didn't think people were interesting. At all." She smiled at him, warm and happy. "And funny. And I'm so, so glad that you--" She was not going to tear up! Today was a happy day! "Were patient with me. And stuck with me. Even though I made it really hard for you, sometimes."

"Oh, he knows he's pretty," Nana said cackling. "And trouble, all the way up to his eyebrows. But a good boy, underneath. Even if he probably doesn't like showin' it all too much."

"They're just so happy together," she said, twining her fingers through his and looking at the three of them, standing close together, dipping fruit in a chocolate fountain and laughing. "It makes me happy to see it."

She squeezed his hand. "We were bummed you couldn't make it," she admitted. "But also so proud of you for taking care of all those people."

YAAAAAAY!!

"Or do I?" Dante said, grinning broadly. "That's one road to immortality."

"I mean, I'm into it," Dante volunteered.

"Same," Kathy said. "My parents would be rolling over in their...well, they'd be horrified to know that their daughter was with two white boys of all things. I don't know if I'd been able to believe that my relationships would work out if I hadn't had Dad - Eliot-Dad - and them to be right there as proof that it could."

"NANA." Parker swooped in to beam at her, holding out a glass of champagne for the older woman. "Wasn't that awesome? Isn't this amazing? Did you like it, say you liked it!"

"Wow. I think that's the first time I've ever heard someone people-watching go the cute route."

For what was, perhaps, the first time since coming to the island, Carter was completely in his element. A wedding! How wonderful!

There was not much he had to do to look the part, truly, aside from making sure his clerical robes were clean and pressed, and as for making a speech—well, when it came to weddings, Carter was more than well equipped for that.

Even if the wedding was determined to be, ah, a little different than all weddings back in Mineral Town. And not just because there were two husbands and a wife to be. Though that alone would have caused endless gossip back home (not maliciously, since townsfolk of Mineral Town were incredibly kind, but simply because it was unusual).

But, no, he rather thought the bride swinging down all in black would have them talking more than just who was getting married!

Weddings, after all, were happy moments. So long as everyone was happy, that was the most important thing and he hardly needed to look at the three of them to know, to feel, just how happy they were today. Carter could hardly keep from beaming himself, about the whole thing.

Or from laughing, just a little, at Parker's wave to him.

Given that today was a Fandom wedding, not one back home, he'd left his scripture at the church. It would be inappropriate to read from it, when the three getting married were not followers of his goddess.

Then… then it was time to get started. Carter drew himself up, joyfully serious, as he surveyed the happy trio, the guests, and their surroundings for a moment, and then he began to speak.

"Today we have come together to witness the joining of these three lives. For them, out of the routine of ordinary life, the extraordinary has happened. They met each other, fell in love and are finalizing it with their wedding today. A good marriage must be created. In marriage the "little" things are the big things.

"It is never being too old to hold hands.

"It is remembering to say, "I love you" at least once a day.

"It is never going to sleep angry.

"It is standing together and facing the world.

"It is speaking words of appreciation, and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.

"It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.

"It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.

"It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.

"It is not only marrying the right people -- it is being the right partner. Hardison, Parker, and Eliot," complete with a gentle nod towards each as he named them, "I would ask that you always treat yourself and each other with respect, and remind yourselves often of what brought you together today. Give the highest priority to the tenderness, gentleness and kindness that your marriage deserves. When frustration and difficulty assail your marriage - as they do to every relationship at one time or another - focus on what still seems right between you, not only the part that seems wrong. This way, when clouds of trouble hide the sun in your lives and you lose sight of it for a moment, you can remember that the sun is still there. And if each of you will take responsibility for the quality of your life together, it will be marked by abundance and happiness."

Carter beamed at the three of them. They had mentioned wishing to speak their own vows, so his job was all but done but, truly, he was honoured have been given the chance to speak in the first place.

"Your turn now," he said encouragingly.

CONGRATS ON THE WEDDING!!!! <3 <3 <3 And thank you so much for letting Carter speechify it up. :D

"I'm going for, like, stealth hot. Boardroom hot. You know, where you go in for a meeting about quarterly reports and then end up getting throws against the wall and breaking the projector," Kathy said, grinning.

Nana laughed again. "All right, sugar, how would you call it?"

Misfit nodded. "Representation matters."

"And they're just good people," Raven said. "I can pretty much guarantee neither Kathy nor I would still be here without them."

"I loved it," Nana said warmly, taking the glass. "Can I give you a hug, now that you're officially my Parker-in-law?"

"Yes," Parker said, nearly before Nana finished speaking, arms open wide, looking thrilled. She had a Nana-in-law! Which was way better than a mother-in-law or father-in-law and better still, Nana called her her Parker-in-law!

"Best. Day. Ever."

IT WAS SO BEAUTFUL!!!
